Simple Swaps for Earth Day

Published: 04/20/2023 By: Allegius Credit Union

Earth Day is April 22, and what better way to celebrate than to take a look at some easy swaps you can make in your everyday life to help the planet!

Switch to a Reusable Water Bottle

HydroFlasks and Stanley cups might be a huge trend right now, but they also make sense! Carrying a reusable water bottle and filling it with filtered water from your refrigerator, in-sink filter, or even a Brita pitcher saves you money, and can help the planet. Single-use water bottles should always be recycled, but bringing your own reusable bottle will prevent that single-use plastic from being used in the first place.

Speaking of Drinks – Reusable Straws!

Reusable straws come in a variety of materials, including metal, silicone, plastic, and even glass! There are even reusable straws that fold up, which are perfect for traveling. Make sure to get dishwasher-safe straws, and you’ll never have to buy single-use straws again!

Swap When you Shop

Reusable grocery bags come in handy for things other than groceries, but they’re great to have. A lot of them are made from recycled materials, and they hold a lot more than a traditional plastic grocery bag. A lot of grocery stores are going to stop offering plastic bags, so be sure to grab a couple reusables!

Cut Down on Paper Bills

Did you know Allegius offers eNotices? You can easily enroll in the program through your online banking portal, and cut down on the amount of mail you receive every month. Contact the credit union for more information or with questions.

Those are just a few simple ways you can help the planet. What things do you do in your everyday life to cut down on waste or single-use products?
